about

The early nineties were kind of a magical time in Bloomington music. Lots of Indie bands doing originals that could easily compete with any national act were common, often taking stage at the late, great Second Story. In the mid-nineties, there was an exodus of some of those bands from Bloomington to Chicago, Illinois. One of those bands was Brown Betty, a power-pop powerhouse fronted by Bill Cameron, currently of San Francisco, and with the powerhouse power-pop rhythm section of Jim Robinson and Tommy Shover. Bill is a fantastically talented songwriter, musician, and all-around good egg. Lip is one of my favorite songs off their debut album, "Thriller." My take is a little different, but hopefully honors the original. It is also super lo-fi -- sorry about that! If you want to hear the original (and goddamit, you really should because it's a classic of early nineties rock), check it out on Musical Family Tree.
